1. 李泉| Li Quan(中国)

Li Quan is a well-known Chinese music producer. A graduate of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music, Li has been a moving force in China’s ‘academic’ pop music industry, and is known as a ‘Music Genius’, ‘Prince of the Piano’. Li is the first Chinese musician to win the Best Classical Music Award from Rolling Stone America. Li is a cross-border artist, who blended his music with architectural installations and won the Special Prize at the 51st Venice Biennale. Li is also the first mainland Chinese musician to win the RTHK Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award in 25 years. Since 2013, Li has been devoted to the new pop jazz genre – a fusion of classic and pop, jazz and techno music.

2. 高博文| Gao Bowen(中国)

Gao Bowen is a Chinese National Artist, Director of Chinese Ballad Singers Association, Distinguished Professor at Fudan University School of Philosophy, head of Shanghai Pingtan Association. Gao is known for his refined performance, and is a recognised inheritor of the ‘Wei, Shen, Xue’ schools of Suzhou Pingtan. Suzhou Pingtan is an ancient Chinese art form of singing and storytelling in Suzhou dialect, with a history of over 400 years. Born in Shanghai, where Pingtan is very popular, Gao grew fond of the art form by listening to radio programmes. As a teenager, Gao attended Shanghai Traditional Opera School to learn Pingtan, and has since been determined to find new ways to share this traditional art form with the world. In 2008, Gao tried to mix Pingtan with rock music and performed at popular commercial areas in Shanghai, which helped bring people closer to the old art form. Today, Gao continues exploring new ways to inherit and develop Pingtan, the treasure of Chinese traditional art. Amongst Gao’s best-known are ‘Pearl Tower’, ‘Wen Zhengming’, ‘Gao Bowen on Fanhua’.

3. DakhaBrakha | 达卡布拉卡(乌克兰)

DakhaBrakha is a world music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian ‘ethnic chaos’ band DakhaBrakha created a world of unexpected new music. The name DakhaBrakha is original, outstanding and authentic at the same time. It means ‘give/take’ in the old Ukrainian language. DakhaBrakha was established in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art ‘DAKH’ by the avant-garde theatre director, Vladyslav Troitskyi. Theatre work has left its mark on the band’s performances — their shows are never staged without scenic effects. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating bright, unique and unforgettable images of DakhaBrakha. It will help to open up the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world. Accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian traditional instrumentation, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. DakhaBrakha has played concerts and performances and has taken part in numerous international festivals in Ukraine, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Austria, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Rumania, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belarus, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, China, Australia, USA, Canada, Columbia, New Zealand, Brazil.

4. Renaud Garcia-Fons Trio | 雷诺加西亚低音提琴三重奏(法国)

Renaud Garcia-Fons, a French double bass player and composer, is known for using 5 Strings Bass. By age 21, Renaud was awarded a diploma by the French Cultural Minister as Professor of Double Bass. From this point forward he worked independently, allowing his adventurous spirit to liberate him from the technical limitations of his instrument in favor of greater freedom to improvise. Renaud Garcia-Fons discovered a singular route between classical, jazz and world music.Ten years into this journey, he decided to add a fifth string to his bass, enabling possibilities well beyond the idea of the double bass as an accompanying instrument and particularly the option to be one of an ensemble's improvising voices. Combining this innovation with his con arco and pizzicato techniques, he reached an unprecedented level of performance. Some began to call him the ‘Paganini of the Double Bass’. While this has been a great compliment, a more accurate comparison is to Astor Piazzolla, Jimi Hendrix, and Paco de Lucia – artists who have advanced the possibilities of their instrument on the force of self-directed study and research.
With this new Trio Renaud Garcia-Fons leaves the Hispanic and Mediterranean landscapes for his city, Paris. This imaginary journey through the melodic charm of the old Paris and the hectic and cosmopolite Paris of nowadays is made of new compositions: waltzes, ballads, jazz, classical music, contemporary grooves. We invite you to walk through the streets of Paris with the chant of Renaud's bass, along with 2 other musicians, virtuosos and poets, David Venitucci on accordion and Stephan Caracci on vibes and percussion. From ‘Montmartre en courant’ to ‘Rue du Dragon’, ‘Revoir Paris’ is an excellent way to mix music, groove and poetry, with the nostalgia inspired by the words of Charles Trenet.

5. En Chordais Ensemble | 安荷达斯乐团(希腊)

En Chordais is one of the most internationally acclaimed and exceptional music ensembles specialising in the traditions of the Mediterranean music. Its presence on stage is always accompanied with a wide and unique repertoire mixed with compositions both from the past and the contemporary time, maintaining the originality and the timelessness of the old as well as the intimacy of today’s trends. The repertoire of the ensemble celebrates the Byzantine musical heritage and the Greek folk music, the works of major Mediterranean composers, as well as compositions by its members and a creative continuation of this great heritage. Of particular importance in the repertoire is the application of Kyriakos Kalaitzidis' (En Chordais' artistic director) research findings in manuscript codices from the 15th-19th century, which are preserved in several historical libraries of Europe.
With this extensive repertoire and a playful, lively presence on stage, the ensemble has toured throughout the world, receiving enthusiastic critical acclaim. They have won Academie Charles Cros Prize 2015, Academie Charles Cros Prize 2014, Radio France Prize 2008 and was nominated for UNESCO Sharjah Prize 2006.

6. Imarhan | 伊马尔罕(阿尔及利亚)

Imarhan, meaning ‘the ones I care about’, started out around 2008 as a loose collection of friends who began to play together. Their music reflects their cultural and generational background: dry guitar riffs, pop melodies and pan-African rhythms which draw on traditional Tuareg music, African ballads and the modern pop and rock the band heard growing up.The band’s debut album is intent on dismantling the ideas western listeners have about popularised Tuareg music. This new wave of Tuareg musicians sounds very different from the desert distortion that accompanies groups like Mdou Moctar or Group Inerane. Instead, it finds a calm and passionate soul, provides sumptuous slow burners, and a complexity of composition that hasn’t been demonstrated by previous music exported from the Saharan people’s musical repertoire. Even if the band has a direct DNA link to trail blazers Tinariwen, their poetry and flow has a more integrally urban base than the ancestral tamashek poetry and traditional rhythms of their elders, Tinariwen. Instead, they offer something much more fresh and intricate; there is a lot of sensitivity and space in these jams, a lot of room for your mind to ponder and drift. The giant divide between their spiritual home and physical home is heard in their tracks: the funkier groove of Western Africa, the emptier, subtle tones of Saharan Traditional folk music and the fire and romance of Algerian Rai music. No other Tuareg release to date has had such a variance of rhythms, tempo and feeling. Imarhan’s record is a heads-up to anyone who thought Tuareg music as just one thing – it’s an invitation to closer listening and an album that will stay fresh for a long time and influence those from the Sahara and beyond.

7. Tarabband | 太拉乐队(多国)

Formed in 2008, Tarabband, a word game on Tarab and Band, is a six-member band composed of the Iraqi Egyptian musician, Nadin Al khalidi, and five other musicians from Sweden and France. Tarabband is a cross-cultural attempt at creating Tarab ‘ecstasy through music’ when emotions and music merge and become one. The group’s leading figure and charismatic vocalist, Nadin Al khalidi, fled from Iraq in 2001 to Sweden as a refugee. Whether it’s Iraqi, Egyptian, or Swedish, Nadin celebrates her triple identity, a mix that is culturally rich. Weaving the personal element into the songs allows Nadin to talk about ‘people we never hear of’ – ‘the least we could do is share their story’. Tarabband’s debut album ‘Ya Sidi – My Master’ was released in 2013. The music and words, as Tarabband’s members, travels between Sufism, Folk, Flamenco, Jazz, and settles in Tarab, the common denominator. Spread throughout the Middle East and North Africa, the album’s first track ‘Baghdad Choby’ is the group’s ‘visa’ to the Middle East music scene (Choby is an Iraqi rhythm).Tarabband held successfully sold out concerts in Egypt and Jordan earlier in 2015, in addition to festival participations in Malaysia, Zanzibar, Sweden and Europe. The band played at WOMEX in 2014.

8. Fay Hield Quartet | 菲·赫尔德四重奏(英国)

Fay Hield is one of the stars of the current English folk music scene. She is a singer who seems to have been born with the rare gift of knowing how to go straight to the heart of a song. Music magazine MOJO described her as ‘one of folk music’s most preeminent modern voices’. Among her many achievements, Fay created ‘The Full English’. This started as an academic archive project sponsored by the English Folk Dance and Song Society. For the first time, many of the finest early 20th century folksong collections were brought together. To celebrate this, Fay developed a super group of folk performers, touring for two years, winning Best Group and Best Album at the 2013 BBC Folk Awards and earning a nomination for Folk Singer of the Year. Her recent Hurricane Party album ‘Old Adam’ was one of The Guardian’s ‘Best Albums of 2016’. Whatever Fay turns her hand (and voice!) to is infused with a real love of English folk song and delivered in a truly captivating style. Here she is joined by long-time collaborators Ben Paley (fiddle), Roger Wilson (guitar, fiddle, voice) and John Spiers (melodeon). Fay is also an academic, lecturing in Music at the University of Sheffield, where she specialises in the role folk music plays in the construction of communities.

9. Sousou & Maher Cissoko |索索与迈尔(塞内加尔/瑞典)

The Sousou & Maher Cissoko (from the South of Sweden and the South of Senegal), is one of the most influential European world music groups. Both Sousou and Maher grew up in families of musicians, and it was the interest in West African kora (a harp lute) that has brought them together. In the performance of Sousou & Maher Cissoko, magnificent kora playing and soulful singing combines with a rhythmic energy and influences from folk, soul and jazz. Sousou & Maher Cissoko’s music is border crossing, constantly on the move, with the musical and human elements as principal driving force. ‘It’s not a meeting between Senegalese folk music and Swedish folk music; we are working more on finding and developing our own expressions, creating our own songs and finding our own voices. Times change and we are living in a global world now where everything is connected.’ – says Sousou & Maher Cissoko. Sousou & Maher perform as a duo, trio or with a full band with guitar, kora, double bass/electric bass and percussion.

10. ZALVARINIS | 扎尔瓦里尼斯(立陶宛)

It’s been more than a decade already since the band ZALVARINIS is on the stage – 5 released albums, tours in Europe, UK, USA and China, sharing stage with the Gipsy Kings, Jessie J, Rudimental, GusGus, HIM, The Hobos, Alphaville, Zdob si Zdub, Groove Armada, Fools Garden, Tricky and others – these are only some important facts from the band’s history. ZALVARINIS is the best-known Lithuanian folk-rock band. The band gets the inspiration from folk songs and their cultural heritage. ZALVARINIS was created by the guitarist Robert Semeniuk, who is also an arranger, composer and producer. Energy of the band, rock and roll and blues groove are the reasons why the band appears in various folk/rock/pop/world music festivals not only in Lithuania, but also all over the world.

11. Eldebek Trio | 埃尔德贝克三重奏(黎巴嫩/土耳其)

Mohamad Eldebek is a versatile percussionist from Lebanon based in New York City. With his brother, world oudist Hadi Eldebek, Mohamad performed internationally in numerous venues including the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, the National Center for Performing Arts in Beijing, Symphony Space, Metropolitan museum of Arts, Shanghai Concert Hall, Beirut Bobo, amongst others. In 2010, he joined the New York Arabic Orchestra conducted by Lebanese composer and virtuoso, Bassam Saba, and later, he joined the Brooklyn Nomads as a lead percussionist. In the summer of 2014, Mohamad’s musical adventures brought him to tour in China and teach Arabic music and rhythms at the first world music and dance workshop in Xizhou town, Yunnan Province. In addition to his musical life, Mr. Eldebek has a Master's degree in Neuroscience and is interested in the effect of music on the brain. Here he is joined by excellent musicians Ramzi Edlibi (Percussion and Vocal) and Tamer Pinarbasi (Qanun).

12. Shishani & the Namibian Tales | 诗珊妮与纳米比亚传说(多国)

Many worlds flow smoothly together in the unconventional music of Shishani & the Namibian Tales. The group was founded by Sjahin During in 2015 in Amsterdam. Vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Shishani combines the little known but rich tradition of her native Namibia with such western influences as soul and jazz. Debby Korfmacher may have been born in Germany, but she went mad about the sound of the African mbira (thumb piano) and then took up the kora (lute-bridge-harp). Cellist Bence Huszar hails from a renowned family of Hungarian musicians but explores the sonic potential of his instrument far beyond traditional boundaries. His pulsating, driving improvisations also land him a part-time job in the rhythm section alongside percussionist Sjahin During. Sjahin can draw on a wealth of experience in the widest variety of traditions, from Afro-Cuban via Turkish to Indian and jazz for his dynamic style of playing. Traditional music from Namibia and other African regions forms the starting point for Shishani’s compositions. She sings her lyrics both in English and Oshiwambo, her mother’s native tongue. Rooted in deep traditions, though partly thanks to unexpected harmonies and rhythms, the music of Shishani & the Namibian Tales sounds surprisingly contemporary and refreshing. They were called ‘The Crown Princess of Contemporary Urban Namibian Music’ at Amsterdam Roots Festival 2016.

13. Luca Ciarla Quartet | 卢卡西亚拉四重奏(意大利)

Luca Ciarla Quartet is one of the most original Italian ensembles in recent years. With Antonino De Luca on accordion, Maurizio Perrone on double bass and Francesco Savoretti on percussions, violinist Luca Ciarla has drawn on the familiar sounds of the Italian folk tradition and the Mediterranean area. A creative and surprising violinist, Luca Ciarla easily transcends the boundaries among genres to trace an innovative musical path, a magical acoustic seduction in perfect balance between written compositions and improvisation, traditional and contemporary sounds. He has successfully performed in jazz, classical and world music festivals and concert series in more than 50 countries around the world.

14. Gulaza | 古拉扎也门女歌(以色列)

Yemen and Africa are separated by sea. Gulaza is an expression of that sea – a sea of despair, prayer, passion, dance, love and longing for freedom. The concept of ‘Gulaza’ was born when Igal Mizrahi and Ben Aylon joined to create a duet between an ancient Yemenite song and the sound of the African N’goni, as part of a concert in a famous festival in Europe. Gulaza continues the natural evolution of Yemenite Women songs. Mystical texts that have passed for centuries from mother to daughter acquire a modern and contemporary meaning in a special instrumental composition. The combination of traditional Saharan strings, cello and acoustic guitars, and the fact that these songs are sung for the first time by a man – creates a unique soundtrack that takes the listener into a world of prayer, passion, dance, love and longing for freedom. Gulaza has successfully toured Europe in 2016: Spain (Tres Culturas Festival), Serbia (Etnofest, Ethno Fusion, Mikser House), Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia (Mazal Tov Festival), Austria, Denmark (CPH World Music Festival) and Poland (Etno Krakow).

15. Yamma Ensemble | 雅玛乐团(以色列)

Yamma Ensemble presents original contemporary Hebrew music, in which group members stay true to the character of the Middle East, the region where they were born and raised. The soulful, exotic music is accompanied by ancient musical instruments (kopuz, duduk, hand drums), which are typical of the Middle East. In addition to this unique art, Yamma also performs the traditional music and material of the various Jewish diasporas. They present songs of the Jewish communities from Yemen, Babylon, and Sefarad, as well as Hasidic music, with the fascinating forms and rhythms that have been preserved by generations of Jewish traditions.

16. Hadar Maoz Trio | 哈达尔三重奏(以色列)

18. KALO-YELE | 卡劳耶(瑞士)

Some say KALO-YELE is the best of two continents and is a splendid work of the trio Aly Keïta, Jan Galega Brönnimann and Lucas Niggli. Three shit-hot musos playing their hearts out. KALO-YELE is always tough. They have spectacular interplay full of rhythmic energy, and touched the audience by sophisticated arrangements and hot afro rhythms. Aly Keïta is one of the grand masters of the balafon, the West African xylophone. The Ivorian musician fits the balafon in interaction with artists such as Joe Zawinul, Omar Sosa and Jan Garbarek. Together with the Swiss clarinettist Jan Galega Brönnimann and Swiss drummer Lucas Niggli, Keïta mixes the traditional African repertoire with Western jazz, improvisation and African rhythms. This ‘Brotherhood of vibes and grooves’ takes the audience on an adventurous ride. The first element that underlies ‘KALO-YELE’ (‘moonlight’ in Bambara) is a human and affective dimension, whose origin lies many miles from Switzerland and several decades before the three musicians entered the studio. Niggli and Jan Galega Brönnimann were actually born in Cameroon and they have been friends since they were... one year old! They spent their youth to the sounds and rhythms of West African music. Many people regard their 2016 CD as the best jazz album and an absolute high class. They are thought to be the highlight of all occasions , with lots of surprises. In 2000, she began to sing and devote herself to Khoomei research and oral harp performing. It is discovered by ancient Mongolians in the 13th century. In the past, Khoomei was dominated by men. In 2003, Sue Irasaihan won the top prize in the International Khoomei Contest held in Mongolia. In 2004, she won the Gold Award in the West China Folk Song Contest. 22. Sahra Halgan Trio | 萨拉哈根(索马里)

Sahra Halgan is an emblematic artist from Somaliland, a territory situated in the north of Somalia, de facto independent since 1991, following a terrible civil war. Sahra’s songs, in a pure, un-artificial musical form, show the world of Somaliland people, their sufferings and joys. Sahra's engagement makes her a symbol of liberty among the Somaliland diaspora. She now lives in Hargeisa, the capital and spreads the message of recognition of her country, for stability and against violence. Her unique and atypical vocal identity has largely contributed to her reputation. Characteristic of the territories of East Africa, where the influences of the Middle East and of Africa are intermingling, her voice surprises by its suppleness, its timbre and its originality, combining throat-voice, tribal inflexions, ululations and oriental ornamentations. Since her arrival in France, Sahra Halgan has staged her atypical route and her musical family inheritance with the complicity of African musicians settled in Lyon. After the release of her first album in 2009, she has covered the stages of Europe and other continents. Sahra Halgan sings with nostalgia, a bit like Cesaria Evora (Green Cap) did. With lightness and emotions, she becomes a vibrant echo singing love and peace. On stage, with her great East African voice and incredible stage presence, Sahra has a gift to take the audience on a unique journey where good mood and shared smiles are blending.

23. 热地乐队| Rid(中国)

The Rid was founded in 2014, when 5 young musicians met in Xilin Gol Grassland, Inner Mongolia. ‘Rid’ is an ancient Mongolian phrase meaning ‘mysterious energy’. Inspired by the vast grassland, the band has mixed traditional Mongolian music with modern elements and created a unique style of music. Every song of theirs conveys the love and peace rooted in grasslands, mountains, and rivers, and you can’t help but feel the mysterious power of nature flowing through their work. The Rid enjoys the happiness of performing and appreciates the inclusiveness of music. Whether we are in a noisy public space, or cocooned on our couch, we can always find our way back to our roots through the music, and honour the cultural heritage left by ancestors by embracing and passing it along.

24. the Gardel Trio | 迦德尔探戈三重奏(俄罗斯/墨西哥)

The Gardel Trio is one of the leading tango ensembles in Asia. They appeared in the Shanghai music scene because of their passion for tango music. Currently they are actively participating in different Milongas and concerts around the country. In March 2017, The Gardel Trio released their debut album Reliquias, produced by Skaði Records. Since the Gardel Trio was born as a partner project with tango enthusiasts, their repertoire is mainly designed for teachers and Milonga goers to enjoy and dance, thus creating a musical atmosphere with a clear influence by Argentinian ‘orquestas típicas’ such as Pugliese's and D'arienzo's. The trio has also a concert tango repertoire with compositions by Galliano and Piazzolla, among others. The Trio is currently working on several projects, such as incorporating Chinese musical instruments into tango music, experimenting with musical theater and choreography in partnership with Shanghai dance companies, and exploring new ideas to enrich their standard tango repertoire.
