| Musicals have become more and more popular amongst the young in Shanghai. The continued enthusiasm towards imported musicals, viz. Les Miserables, Romeo and Juliet, Mama Mia!, and Cats has shown nothing contrary to the fact that the Shanghainese do in fact love musicals. The development of Shanghai musical theatre follows a three-step blueprint: Importation, localization and original production. However, recent original musicals in Shanghai have shown a lack of quality standards and gained tepid feedbacks. The League of Contemporary Arts will introduce original musicals created by outstanding writing, directing and performing teams. With a strong contemporary note and also with involvement of the audience in storytelling, they sure will be more engaging! |
